Originally from Northern Minnesota, I spent many hours with my family camping, canoeing and hiking in the north woods, and enjoyed my solo times recreating these cherished memories in drawing and painting projects. I studied 2D and 3D design along with Native American art at the University of Minnesota. A notable instructor was Carl Gawboy, celebrated Ojibwa watercolorist. I earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Natural History Education.
I headed west, spending five years as a naturalist for the National Park Service. My heart sang as I intimately experienced the constantly changing esthetics, light, and color of Olympic NP, Death Valley NM, Kings Canyon NP and Point Reyes NS.
An fabulous 11-year stint as Adult and Family Education Manager at the California Academy of Sciences provided opportunities to study art of the natural world with Charles Stasek, Kathryn Hubbard, MaryJo Koch, Carolyn Griffin and Judith Cornell. I also studied textile design with Zeida Rothman. During this time, I won design awards from the American Association of Museums and the National Association for Interpretation.
My recent studies have included working with California painters: Patsy Taylor, Camille Przewodek, Mark Jezierny, Mary Lou Correa and Cassandra Antkowiak, and Minneapolis painter and colorist: Scott Bean.
My varied career has included marketing, community and media relations positions with Recreational Equipment Inc. (REI) and Cal State East Bay, and currently I am the Director of Marketing at Los Medanos College in Pittsburg, CA.
I am an active artist/member of the Moraga Art Gallery in Moraga and the Valley Art Gallery in Walnut Creek in California.
